Malmo’s path to the Champions League group stage began in the first qualifying round, where they defeated Riga. Afterwards, the Swede defeated HJK Finland in two games. When Malmo defeated Rangers twice in the third round of qualifying, they created a stir. Malmo defeated Ludogorets in the qualifying playoffs. Chelsea played another game in Sweden’s championship before facing Juventus. The team and Norrköping played to a 1-1 tie. Currently, Malmo are ranked third in the Swedish league.
However, despite Massimiliano Allegri’s return to Juventus, the Turin team has struggled in the league thus far. Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo will no longer be playing for the Old Lady. As of yet, Juventus has only earned one point in their first three Serie A games, which came against Udinese in their first away encounter. The game finished in a 2-2 draw. Then came the 0-1 home loss to Empoli. In the previous weekend’s match, Juventus lost 1-2 against Napoli on the road. Juventus is currently ranked 16th in the Italian league rankings.
Malmo, the Swedish champions has already done a great job to reach the Group Stage in the Champions League. They fought through four qualifying rounds knocking out champions Rangers and Ludogorets. The opening Group H fixture against Juventus will be their biggest test yet. Despite Massimiliano Allegri being back as the successful boss, the Italian titans have not yet made the move to start the new season domestically.
They come into this match with two straight Serie A losses under their belts. Albeit Juve are the apparent favorite to win this match since they have the superior players, Malmo should be confident in their battle against an underachieving club that can’t stop Cristiano. Even though Malmo hasn’t kept a clean sheet this season, they’ll have the benefit of playing at home.
